BIO / CV
Karla Guerrero (b. 1993, Mexico City) photographer, digital curator, and cultural manager, founder of Femgrafia. She received her bachelor's degree in visual communication from Universidad de la Comunicación. In 2019 she studied the MA in Social Development of Artistic Culture, University of Malaga, along with research seminars and digital studios for artistic culture. Her photographic praxis started while gaining her diplomas in photography by the Fundación Pedro Meyer and Academia de Artes Visuales. Her work has been selected as one of the Top 9 portfolios in the 10th edition of Photometria Festival, Greece, and recently she was a finalist for the grant MAP by Lens School of Visual Arts, Madrid, Spain.
Her work is highly influenced by the philosophical vanguard of Phenomenology in the behavior of the gaze, the interactions of oneself between objects, spatial explorations in experiences of transience and absence: memory, loss, and void.
Guerrero's work has been exhibited online and offline in Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Mexico, including international fairs such as Cosmos Arles Books. Published and reviewed by international platforms such as Aesthetica Magazine, GUP Magazine, and Lensculture. She has obtained the Sony World Photography Award, POY Latam, FOAM Paul Huf Award nominee, and the Lucie Foundation Scholarship shortlist.
In her new facet as a cultural manager, she has participated as a jury and speaker at international photography festivals and cultural spaces, worked as an assistant in contemporary photography galleries, has developed open calls, portfolio reviews, online exhibitions, and blog's interviews. From 2017 to 2020 she collaborates writing about photography and visual culture with digital approaches on platforms with exposure in Latin America. In 2019, she founded Femgrafía, a platform for dissemination and research on the photographic work of women in Latin America and Spain, where she aims to create a community between spaces and artists for the future study and recognition of women photographers.
